Project 2004 "Storefront Bookmark"

For “Re-source,” an exhibition at Storefront for Art and Architecture, ABA designed “Bookmark,” a multi-positionable object meant to support, display, or hold your place in a book. The project is a study in circular design, utilizing 1/8” thick surplus white acrylic sheets—remnants from the office’s previous work on the Storefront Library exhibition.

The “Re-source” initiative invited 26 designers to create new works from leftover items within the gallery’s storage spaces, giving new life to idle materials. Our contribution serves as a targeted material intervention, transforming technical mock-ups into a functional, limited-edition object. By bridging the gap between the scale of the building and the scale of the book, the Bookmark reflects a commitment to maintenance and the sustainable re-use of architectural resources.
